ATIC is an independent and non-governmental organization, non-patrimonial, apolitical, scientific and professional, a component of civil society. The Association for Information Technology and Communications in Romania is the first association of the IT&C sector in Romania.Registered in 1991 as the Romanian Software Association, it changed its name to the Association for Information Technology and Communications in Romania – ATIC in 1996. From the beginning, ATIC was proud to represent both the business and scientific sectors of the IT&C field in Romania. The Association for Information Technology and Communications in Romania counts in its ranks both representative companies in the field, as well as scientific personalities from the university or research environment.”Our association is not only the oldest IT profile association in Romania, having been established in 1991, but it is also the only one that represents the interests of both individual professionals and the business community. We were at the forefront of promoting the field in relation to government and legislative bodies, being a co-author of the proposal accepted in 2001 for IT professionals to benefit from tax exemptions to promote this vital field for Romania’s future. We were concerned about the impact of our activity on society and adopted the ECDL digital skills certification model, recognized worldwide in over 160 countries, an action successfully carried out in Romania since 2002.ATIC has wide international recognition, being an active member of CEPIS – the Council of European Professional Informatics Associations and of WITSA – the World Alliance of Information Technology and Services, as well as of the IT STAR regional organization. Our association has concerns for the history of IT in Romania by organizing actions to mark the history of computers and telecommunications. The past compels us.A future full of actions in favor of the Romanian IT community can only be conceived together.I therefore invite you to join ATIC.”Prof. Dr. Vasile Baltac, Honorary President
